Dan and Garrett are joined by Jill Malcolm and Ryan Silbertsein, editors of Cinedelphia, to discuss the latest in one of the longest running monster movie franchises - Godzilla. Shin Godzilla returns to the aesthetic and more overtly political nature of the original 1954 movie, while expanding on the mythology of the creature and utilizing modern effects to achieve a larger scale version of the man-in-a-rubber-suit action that kept this series alive for decades. More about the response to environmental disaster than to nuclear disaster, Shin Godzilla is somewhat of an absurd comedy about the failings of bureaucracy in the face of forces that can't controlled or understood. We didn't know a Kaiju version of In The Loop was something we wanted, but it turns it out it's exactly the thing we needed to get excited about Godzilla again.
